With the green light on our project from the spirit world, we decided an over view of Kate’s year ahead could be a good point of reference on our adventure.
The spread that I used is an astrology year spread and uses the signs of the Zodiac as a guide for the 12 changing phases throughout the year. As the sun moves from one sign to the next on the dates shown on the wheel, there is a shift in energy and the next card comes into effect. I learnt this card from my tarot mentor who has been a huge influence in my skills and confidence as a reader.
We used the Osho Zen deck, which you can read about on our resources page. Kate finds the imagery in this deck a little less confronting than those of the New Mythical Tarot but as you will see, its not all sunshine and rainbows. It has an uncanny knack of holding a mirror up for you.
It is important to note that when you are doing a yearly spread it is a snap shot of the year as it stands at this moment. As you make decisions on your journey this can effect the direction that your life my take. I feel this is especially relevant for Kate as this adventure means that she may take some turns that previously she may have never even considered or been brave enough to follow. So without this wanting to sound like a disclaimer, I fully expect that her year will deviate from what is laid out before us now because I don’t really think her ego has realized it is about to get the boot! So this is how the year ahead looks for Kate…
Transformation (Hanged Man)
And so it begins, having entered into this project nearly a month ago now I think Kate will be feeling very resigned and a little exposed. Much is out of her control now. The thing that really stood out for me reading this card was the touching of the face below the Budda figure. I really feel that this represents Kate connecting to source energy by undertaking this project and this brings the opportunity for transformation. There are so many talents in her hands, but it is only when she decides to connect to source that they can blossom.
Playfulness (Knight of Wands)
A little fun in the air, perhaps of the risqué kind. I sensed a male energy bringing this playfulness out but it doesn’t feel like a deep loving relationship. It certainly has a magical, even naughty excitement to it and there may be some wonderfully reckless abandon during this time.
Thunderbolt (the Tower)
Now I really need to point out that this is a card that during the many readings I have done for Kate over time, always seems to pop up in questions about relationships. We all have some walls that we need to work on and Kate’s just happen to be an entire Tower. Lightning will strike, the tower will fall, as it has done in the past but what is important is how you deal with the fall-out that determines how you move forward and what you learn from it. This card shows and image of a figure in peaceful meditation whilst the fires burn and figures fall. This time I think Kate has an opportunity to shake the tower monkey off her back, if she can remain grounded and centered, almost removed she may finally let the tower crumble for good.
From April 20 – Taurus
Awareness (Chariot)
After that tower crumbles there is enourmous opportunity for growth. Here we still see the ego struggling at being left behind but a small peaceful conciousness is emerging. It is not fully in control, there are still many opportunities to sink back into old ways and habits but with small steps and by being kind to herself, Kate can allow her growing awareness to be fulfilled.
New Vision (Wheel of Fortune)
And I think she may manage it. This is a spectacular card. This gorgeous fluid figure has stood up from the crawling image below and is growing wings. The Wheel has turned and growth has been made. What can I say, the beauty of this card speaks for itself, its like looking at life in a completely new light.
So far so good, a little bit of play, lots of growth but all fairly fresh and exciting. With winter solstice upon us there is a bit of a turn in the feeling of the year. It is not really surprising, we must have our ebb to have our flow, but the next few months bring a bit more of a challenge for Kate.
From June 21 – Cancer
Control (King of Swords)
After the gorgousness of the Gemini card this card feels kind of like lock down. The reckless abandon is gone and in its place is cold, hard, angular control. I am not sure in what area of Kate’s life this eventuates, my initial feeling is in her music but it also could be tied to her work, perhaps both. It is like she has forgotten her dreams and got back to the cold hard reality of things. It is all shiny but the mask is up and the vault is shut. It does however, also display the enormous strength and determination that Kate possesses but I can’t help but feel that behind this front she is shriveling.
Morality (Queen of Swords)
It looks like it is going to hang around for a bit. Again this card looks very locked up and devoid of the warmth of flesh that a person needs to be balanced. At least in this card her dreams can be seen behind the wall, but there is a barrier barring the way and it feels like this may be self-imposed.
From August 23 – Virgo
The Outsider (5 of Pentacles)
Ok so now we are getting somewhere, still on the outside, dreams still behind the wall but in this card there is a childish longing to escape. Kate has remembered that it doesn’t need to be like this, and that she is ready to take small baby steps to reaching her goals, if only she could open that gate. ‘Kate you need to step back and take a good look at the lock…it is open. You just have to push the gate and step through’.
From September 23 – Libra
Slowing Down (Knight of Pentacles)
When you start taking your first steps you are slow and cautious. Kate has passed through the gate but she needs to take it slow. This card is about understanding that you are OK where you are and exactly as who you are. There is time and you don’t need anybody else to pick you up and carry you. If you plod away, you will reach your goal.
The Creator (King of Wands)
All that “slowness” in Libra has paid off. There is now a fire buring in Kate’s belly that doesn’t ravage her but feeds her because it comes from the Creator. It gives her strength and warmth, protection and clarity and it shines out into the world, giving off warmth. I feel this card really represents Kate stepping into her own power, not the cold power of facade and determination we saw in the King of Swords back in July, but a centered and calm power that allows and nourishes.
The Fool
So onto a new adventure it seems. The image of the fool, the first card in the Major Arcana of the Tarot, illustrates Kate stepping off the edge of a cliff, unconcerned and trusting that Universe will provide a path below. This is definitely a turning point for Kate and the lessons of the past months have given her the confidence to allow whatever may come. While this next adventure may have ups and downs, it is just another lesson in her life and another adventure to be had.
From December 21 – Capricorn
Schizophrenia (2 of Swords)
I love this card as it illustrates perfectly how, once on the journey started by The Fool, we invariably find ourselves between a rock and a hard place. Can’t go up, really don’t want to go down but the crows are circling up ahead and the fall is inevitable. A decision must be made and this situation is summed up perfectly by the Osho Zen “Should I let my arms go and fall head-first, or let my feet go and fall feet first?” Yes, no, here, there, whatever decision Kate is facing at this time the there is only one solution, “to let go of both at once, you can’t solving this problem by making a list of pro’s and con’s, or by working it out with your mind, better to follow your heart. If you can find it, just jump – your heart will start beating so fast there will be no mistake about where it is!”And so there it is, a preview of what you may witness Kate work her way through during this year. We will check back, as time passes to see how her year is fitting in with what has been shown to us or if she has made other choices and options that she may not have before she saw this. However it plays out, I hope you enjoy watching it unfold.
love
Kristy
